A passionate, soulful performer, singer/songwriter Leela Gilday takes her audiences on a journey through a deep and vibrant landscape resonating with musical images shaped by her powerful voice. Her music unites melody and lyrics and language rooted in her Northern Canadian heritage while embodying the essence of being Dene in an urban environment. From her home in Yellowknife, NWT, Leela Gilday has carved out an international award winning career, with both a Juno and a Western Canadian Music Award for her second album Sedzé.

Touring has taken Leela from Tokyo to Toronto and from New Mexico to Haida Gwaii, with an overwhelming audience response to the strength of her live performances in concert halls, festivals or on radio and television. With the release of her third CD Calling All Warriors in 2010, Leela opened the window a little further on her creative life experience as a northern woman, sharing the essence of who she is with her listeners. 2014 will see the release of her 4th album, The Heart of the People. There is no doubt, Leela Gilday is an exceptional Canadian artist who happens to hail proudly from Canada’s north.

Leela was named Aboriginal Female Entertainer of the Year (2011) by the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, and was the Musical Director for the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards Finale (2012, CTV). "Calling All Warriors" garnered a Western Canadian Music Award, a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award, and an Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award. At the world music conference, Mundial Montreal, in November 2013, Leela was chosen as a top performer, receiving a hand crafted Blueberry Guitar. She premiered the guitar in two recent performances in New York.

“Leela Gilday’s voice comes straight from the heart. It’s the voice of a winner; the song of a warrior. That’s the call of Leela Gilday.”
