The Nautical Miles are an adventurous roots music band from Vancouver, BC. Hailed as “a new kind of folk music” by The Georgia Straight, they continue to push the boundaries of contemporary folk song. Having collaborated with chamber choirs, bluegrass bands and brass quintets, with this band you can never be certain what’s next, only that you don’t want to miss it!

Ode to Joy, the band’s third full-length, was written in Bogota, Colombia, Timbuktu, Mali, and Bruno, Saskatchewan during a six-month journey principle songwriter Corbin Murdoch took in 2012. The album sees the band careening deftly between bombastic party rockers and heart-wrenching ballads, proving once more that The Nautical Miles are a band at the top of their game. Recorded in Vancouver with Polaris Prize shortlisted producer Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung), the album marks another leap forward for the alt-roots quartet.

The band has created several concert-length song cycles, including Wartime Lovesong (2009) and Ode to Joy (2014). These works have been performed at The Vancouver Folk Festival, The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival and The Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The Nautical Miles have toured across Canada and in Europe, and The CBC has twice recorded their concerts for national broadcast. Recently, their single Mythmaker debuted at #1 on CBC Radio 3’s chart show The R3-30.
