Hailed as “a fascinating array of wood, metal
and fire,” (James Wegg Music Review) Lawler
+ Fadoul offer performances that are uniquely captivating,
combining the almost primal appeal of percussion
with the soaring sound of the flute and the sophistication
and elegance of the best classical music. In addition
to their deep roots in music (they are graduates
of Juilliard and Yale Schools of Music), the duo
has an extensive theater background, a love of performance
and an ability to create an atmosphere that is lively,
engaging and truly interactive. Lawler +
Fadoul (Zara
Lawler, flute and Paul J. Fadoul, marimba) have performed
in many of the United States’ most prestigious
venues, including the Kennedy Center, Strathmore,
Trinity Wall Street, and Vermont’s Yellow Barn
Music School, and made their Canadian debut at the
Edmonton Recital Society. Avid promoters of new music,
their Gronica Project is an ongoing program to increase
the repertoire for t heir instrumentation both by
commissioning new works from living composers and
by creating their own arrangements of favorite works
of the past. Their debut CD Prelude Cocktail was
released in fall 2013, and is an intoxicating mix
of world premiere recordings of commissioned works
by American composers Katherine Hoover and Roshanne
Etezady, as well as works by Bach, Gershwin, Debussy
and others. Lawler + Fadoul are dedicated and creative
educators, as well, and work as teaching artists
for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington,
DC and created Break it Down! for a week of Kinderkonzerts
at the Kennedy Center in February 2013. All of their
programs are offered with companion in-school shows
that make music come alive for students in grades
K-6. They have worked as a duo since 2003. Showcase Artist: Pacific Contact 2015 Home Base: New York Touring Schedule: Click here |
