The Atlantic String Machine was formed in April 2015 and is based on Prince Edward Island. The group is made up of five musicians with considerable experience in many musical genres, having performed worldwide with internationally recognized symphony and chamber orchestras, ensembles, bands and individual artists. They have recently joined together to present a wide range of music from classical to jazz, pop, world music and their own compositions.

Since inception, the Atlantic String Machine have performed numerous concerts across PEI and into the Canadian Maritime provinces. The group enjoys performing on their own as well as collaborating with others and they have worked with many Canadian artists, including well known Newfoundland jazz guitarist Duane Andrews, PEI pop group Paper Lions, singer songwriter James Keelaghan and with Newfoundland folk group The Once. The ASM has produced its own concert series since 2015, and this past season featured music of Russia, France, and Italy and the United Kingdom. During PEI summers, the ASM is featured in performances at the PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls, the Indian River Festival and the Trailside Cafe. Summer 2017 featured a special performance entitled 'Heartbeat of the Island' which traced the cultural heritage of Prince Edward Island through stories and music, performed at the Victoria Playhouse.

In 2016, having been awarded a creation and production grant from the Arts Council of Prince Edward Island, the ASM recorded their debut CD, ‘Lost Time’. The CD, released in September 2016, includes the eclectic mix of repertoire for which the ASM has become known. 'Lost Time' was nominated for a 2017 East Coast Music Award for Best Classical album, as well as the title composition being nominated for Best Classical composition. In April 2018, the ASM looks forward to its first visit to Western Canada, showcasing at Pacific Contact and performing local concerts.
