Three-time Juno nominee Rick Scott joins forces with young keyboard ace Nico Rhodes for a lively, participatory concert combining music, storytelling and laughter. Based on Rick’s 8 award winning children’s recordings, this 60 minute show is enlivened by Nico’s piano mastery and the inter-generational mischief of two musical playmates 40 years apart in age.
Rick has performed in over 1000 schools in 9 countries and been honoured with Parents’ Choice, Family Choice, Children's Music Web and Canadian Folk Music Awards. He’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation and in 2019 was inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.
When Rick performs for children, he always hopes one child might have a life changing moment and decide, ‘I can do this too!’ Nico Rhodes was such a child. Age 30, Nico is one of Canada’s most in demand arrangers and musical directors. When he was 8, Rick performed in his school and Nico wrote a fan letter (Rick wrote back). Age 23 he arranged Rick’s music for symphony. Since 2017 they've been touring to ovations as the duo ROOTS & GROOVES for big folks.
When Rick had a solo family show, Nico asked to play along because he already knew all the songs from his childhood. The result was MUSIC & LAUGHTER, a lively participatory concert for all ages, suitable for schools, festivals and community concert matinees, most often offered in tandem with a ROOTS & GROOVES evening show for adults.
"The best children’s show I have seen in ten years of teaching.” Brent Kennedy Elementary
"Rick’s music speaks to kids and their parents and to me... It’s delightful, educational, accessible and innovative. It’s not only important to Canadian music—it’s essential." Jurgen Gothe, CBC Radio
