Tricoter re-creates the spirit of a knitting circle. The dance winds and unwinds through and around the public who are arranged in the round. Yarn is integrated into the choreography and weaves an architecture that links public and place to the dancer.

While dancing, the yarn gets tangled in a large knot of bright colours and the memories that knitting occupy in our own family history re-emerge. We experience Tricoter through play, curiosity, and exploration of belonging to a community.

Tricoter is a choreography of 15 minutes for public spaces, usually presented 2-3 times/day in festival setting or once/day immediately followed by a 45 min interactive community engaged dance and knitting workshop.

Tricoter can also be presented as a gift to your audiences in a season opening event in your lobby or offsite, for community members such as a home for elders or elementary school children - who love moving and hand knitting. With additional resources we can offer workshops installations such as "yarn-bombing".

Details : The dancer use over 12 balls of yarn in the choreography (provided by the company). The piece is danced inside a round of approx. 20 chairs. The violinist plays seated on one of the chairs within the circle with the audience. A red piece of yarn is placed on the chairs and the audience is asked to put it on their lap at the beginning. Those who can't sit, can stand outside the circle. Children must be seated on their adult (not on the floor in the dancing space).

Minimum on-site technical requirements:
- Dance surface inspection (no debris)
of concrete, asphalt, wood or tile surfaces.
- 1 or 2 volunteers for the chairs installation
.
- 20 to 25 chairs placed in a circle, other audiences can stand around the circle.
- PA sound system for large or noisy public spaces (acoustic versions possible for smaller/quiet) spaces - microphone provided by the musician.
- Warm space for artists & safe storage of personal belongings during the show.
